Open House for Educators of Latino Students
Celebra la Ciencia, a science outreach project targeting Latino students and families, invites teachers and educators from public schools, charter schools, and community/youth organizations to attend an Educator's Open House, Wednesday, Jan. 18, 4-6 p.m. The Open House will be held at the main reception room at the National Council of La Raza Building, 1126 16th St., NW, Washington, DC. (near Farragut North metro stop). In addition to refreshments, teachers can pick up many educational resources and talk directly with representatives from more than 20 museums and other educational organizations. The Smithsonian Museums of Natural History, Air & Space, and American Art, as well as the National Aquarium, the Columbia Heights Science Workshop, Latin American Youth Center, and many other organizations will have displays. Two $100 gift certificates for educational supplies will be given away as door prizes.

Celebra la Ciencia is a project of the Self-Reliance Foundation. The project supports media and special events that are designed to increase the involvement of Latino families in science activities. Celebra la Ciencia and collaborating organizations provide hands-on science exhibits and activities for school and family events, such as family science nights, science resources for teachers, and hands-on science activities at community festivals. These events, supported by informational radio capsules produced by Hispanic Communications Network, link Latino students and families to activities, information and resources about science and health.
