Kids, try this at home!

Make creative envelopes with old magazines!

There are a lot of materials in our homes that we can recycle or reuse instead of throw away.  In this activity, you’re going to make envelopes with pages from old magazines.  The pictures and drawings in the magazines are perfect for making interesting envelopes that everyone will want to receive.

Materials:

Magazines and a glue stick

Instructions:

1.  Choose a page from a magazine with a photo or picture that you like.

2.  Cut the page into a square.

Text Box: fold on the dotted line

3.  Put the sheet with the image you want for the envelope on towards the table.  The sheet should look like a diamond.  Fold the bottom part towards the top, without folding it exactly in half.

4.  Fold the outside corners in towards the center.

Text Box:

5.  Make sure the space between the folded sides is large enough that a card or letter could fit in between.

Text Box:

6.  Glue the outer sides carefully, making sure not to glue them to the inside of the envelope.

7.  Repeat these steps until you have all the envelopes that you need to send letters to your friends and family.

Suggestions for mailing letters:

    • Use a self-adhesive stamp
    • Write the address on a white sticker for mailing
