Kids, try this at home!
MAKE A HEALTHY AND DELICIOUS SNACK...
And learn which organs are responsible for the digestion of your food!
It is very important that we eat a variety of foods and that we choose foods from each of the five main food groups: fruit, vegetables, grains (whole grains are the best), dairy products (fat-free or low-fat are the best), and meat and beans. Limit your intake of oils and foods that are high in sugar and fat.
Ingredients:
low-fat vanilla yogurt, strawberries, a banana, a cereal like granola (or another cereal with whole grains), almonds or peanuts (if you are allergic to nuts, don’t eat them).
Note: If you don’t like the suggested fruits, substitute them with your favorites!
Instructions:
1. Put ¾ cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt in a bowl (dairy product).
2. Add two spoonfuls of granola (grain).
3. Add six pieces of strawberry (fruit).
4. Add five pieces of banana (fruit).
5. Sprinkle with a bit of granola and add 10 nuts (protein group-meat and beans) if you wish.
Examine the table below to learn what is in the foods and which parts of the digestive system are responsible for the major part of digestion of each food.
