About Celebra la Ciencia Triangle Region, NC
North Carolina has one of the fastest growing Latino populations in the nation.
The Celebra la Ciencia chapter of the Triangle region serves the Latino community in the following counties: Wake, Durham, Orange, Person, Johnston, Harnett, Chatham, and Franklin. This region is anchored by the cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill. The region is well known for Research Triangle Park, which is the largest research park in the country.
Given the predominance of biotechnology, research, and development jobs in this area, as well as three major research universities (North Carolina State University, Duke University, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill), science is a major part of the economy and culture of our area. As more Latinos move into the Triangle, Celebra la Ciencia seeks to connect the Latino community with existing and future community science and public health resources, programs, services, and opportunities. Our ultimate goal is to increase awareness of science and math opportunities for Latino students and families. We hope to share our local science culture and resources with Latino residents and encourage more Latino students to pursue science careers.
